New Fort Curtis

The original Fort Curtis was built soon after the Union army occupied Helena in 1862. New Fort Curtis allows visitors to experience an earthen fort firsthand, including the huge 24-pounder guns. A series of interpretive markers inside and outside this reconstruction (through the Delta Cultural Center) tell the story of Union occupation of Helena.  In addition, a plaque at Columbia and Perry streets marks the site of the original Fort Curtis.
