Harden Family Cemetery

The John Harden Sr. family founded the Jennie community.  John Harden Sr. was born a slave and lived in the area from emancipation until his death on April 14, 1892.  He and his wife, Mary Thomas Harden, had three sons, Sam P., John Silas, and Henry, who were known as the preacher, the teacher and the politician.  Sam pastored the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, John Silas taught in the one-room schoolhouse, and Henry was engaged in numerous civic activities.  The Hardens also had one daughter, Moriah, who married General James, who died while preparing for departure to Europe during World War I.  Listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
