Benjamin Crowley Marker

Crowley's Ridge, a unique landform running through eight counties in Eastern Arkansas, is named for Benjamin Crowley, head of an influential pioneer family. Crowley settled in what is now Crowley's Ridge State Park in 1825. He had originally received a large land grant near New Madrid, Missouri for his services in the War of 1812. Upon hearing reports of the powerful earthquakes that occurred in this area in 1811-1812, however, he moved on and settled on the ridge near Walcott.
