ADB Lifetime Achievement Award: Marcel Hanzlik

February 16, 2024

Congratulations to Marcel Hanzlik for his Lifetime Achievement Award, presented Feb. 16, 2024 at the ADB Annual Awards Banquet in West Memphis.

Marcel Hanzlik has been a strong advocate of the Delta and the Arkansas Delta Byways organization for more than 30 years. He was the first president of the organization in 1993, and he filled the vacancy each time a president left office before term. He took back the position in 2002, guiding the organization until he retired in July 2023. Though he is no longer president, he is still an active board member.

In addition to his work as president, Marcel has supported Arkansas Delta Byways in many ways. He has travelled up and down the byways delivering brochures and information. He has represented the region enthusiastically at numerous travel shows. He has presided over 16 of the 21 banquets, making sure the sound system was in place and serving as emcee. To all of these activities, he has brought his deep knowledge of the Delta and his sense of humor.

Marcel has also led Delta Byways through some of its most innovative initiatives. He presided over Delta Byways during its first MOU with Arkansas State University. He led numerous special events, including memorable motorcycle rides through the Delta. In 2021, he led the one-time Innovation Awards, celebrating the Delta’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Through these and many other activities, Marcel has led the Delta to success.

He has received the Arkansas Delta Byways “Outstanding Member” (2012) and “Tourism Person of the Year” (2022), and will be inducted into the Arkansas Tourism Hall of Fame at this year’s Governor’s Conference on Tourism.
